Let Eugenie Bouchard live her life on or off the tennis courts
By Harry Floyd
Anyone who follows Eugenie Bouchard knows by now that she is taking a break from tennis. That’s okay for Genie and should be for everyone else too.
Canadian tennis player Eugenie Bouchard is taking a break from tennis. This is not breaking news by any means, especially at this point. Fans were made aware of it about a week ago. While some commentators and television personalities have made their opinions known, we are here to say that these opinions don’t really matter.
Bouchard might not play tennis on the WTA Tour for a bit. That’s okay. Let her take her time away from the courts. Women’s tennis will continue with several up and coming stars making headlines and veteran greats reemerging. Fans will love it when Genie returns, but it’s her call when she hits the tennis courts again.

In the meantime, you can still follow Bouchard via social media. She has a commanding following on Instagram in particular and that’s not going to change anytime soon. That is also okay.
She will likely continue to workout, practice, spend time with friends, family, and do all of the other things that anyone else does, professional athletes included. All of which is okay and her call.
When it comes down to it, Bouchard is just 25-years-old anyway. Women’s singles tennis is currently seeing a mix of unexpected young stars and veteran greats challenge one another for the top rankings. Genie has plenty of years left to make another top run on the WTA Tour.
Veteran greats such as Petra Kvitova and Angelique Kerber are experienced players returning to top form. And, if you would consider the likes of Simona Halep or Caroline Wozniacki to be veterans alongside players like Naomi Osaka, then Bouchard is still on the younger end of the majority of the players on the WTA Tour right now.
For now, all eyes turn toward the clay court season and ultimately the French Open. Halep could be a dominant player and a true force in the upcoming weeks. On the men’s singles side, we wonder whether or not Rafael Nadal has what it takes to defend yet another title at the Monte Carlo Masters. There is plenty of thrilling tennis to look forward to.
Let Eugenie Bouchard do her thing. It doesn’t matter if that’s hitting the beach in Miami or the courts for a practice. She will surely be back on the WTA Tour in due time. For now though, sit back and enjoy what’s happening in the tennis world.
