Edmund sees an early exit from the Monte Carlo Masters. Falling to Diego Schwartzman in a tough three set match, the 17th seed in the men’s singles draw is ousted. This is a definite upset but it’s one we can’t read too much into. Schwartzman, like Edmund, is a rising star in men’s singles tennis. He takes the round of 64 meeting with the British number one, winning 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.

Another major early round upset comes to the 15th seed this year at the Monte Carlo Masters. Canadian tennis star Denis Shapovalov has been knocked out of the men’s singles action, dropping his match against Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff. Shapovalov is another top young player on the ATP Tour. He falls in three sets to his opponent as Struff takes the match 5-7, 6-3, 6-1.

Struff sets up a very interesting matchup against former ATP Finals champion Grigor Dimitrov in the round of 32 next. Dimitrov is coming off of a win over Matteo Berrettini. Other round of 32 matches to look forward to include those with the tournament favorites.
