Can Dominic Thiem take the title at the Barcelona Open?

Austrian tennis star Dominic Thiem is the third seed in men’s singles this year at the Barcelona Open. He enters the quarterfinals.

Dominic Thiem enters the quarterfinals action in men’s singles this weekend at the 2019 Barcelona Open. Up next for the third seed is Guido Pella of Argentina. His opponent is coming off of wins over the likes of João Sousa, the sixth seeded Karen Khachanov, and then France’s Benoît Paire.

How will Thiem handle Pella in the quarters? If you look at the odds makers, Thiem is roughly a three to one favorite in their upcoming matchup. We like him moving forward.

Pella is not the player that Thiem needs to worry about. Don’t get us wrong, he cannot discount his quarterfinals opponent because he needs to get through him first, but there is a MASSIVE challenge waiting for him in the semifinals. That challenge is none other than Rafael Nadal.

The King of Clay is in his element at the Barcelona Open right now. He is an 11-time champion in men’s singles here and is the defending champion. In fact, he is a three-time defending champion currently. Back in 2017, Thiem reached the finals but fell to Rafa in straight sets.
