Action at the 2019 Italian Open is into the semifinals in both men’s and women’s tennis. Let’s make some picks for the men’s matches.

The Italian Open is seeing some of the best players reach the semifinals this year. Action on the women’s singles side of the tournament is already underway for the semis. Kiki Bertens and Johanna Konta are into the third set of their match as of writing. Let’s make some predictions for the men’s matches.

Up first is eight-time champion Rafael Nadal and rising ATP star Stefanos Tsitsipas. The two square off in Rome for a highly anticipated matchup. The King of Clay is also the defending champion here.

This is a direct rematch of their semifinals meeting at the Madrid Open. There, it was the up and coming Tsitsipas who emerged victorious. It was just his first win ever against Nadal. The Spanish superstar has ultimate scoreboard over Tsitsipas, with a 3-1 ATP singles record all-time between the two.

We are taking Nadal in this one. It could easily be another three-set thriller though. The two went back and forth in Madrid and both are on fire right now. Nadal has the experience at the Italian Open though. His record eight titles makes him the player to beat at the tournament.

The second semifinals match is between Novak Djokovic and Diego Schwartzman. Djokovic is the top seed in men’s singles this year in Rome and has been the best player on the ATP Tour for the better part of a year now.

Djokovic has won all three of the previous three Grand Slams in men’s singles. He is coming off of a massive win over Juan Martin del Potro in the quarterfinals. Schwartzman, however, is fresh off of a big win too. He ousted the red hot Kei Nishikori in the quarters, winning in straight sets.

Schwartzman is yet to drop a single set in Rome. Djokovic was cruising until he met Delpo so we have to wonder if that epic match took anything out of him. It’s difficult to bet against Nole though. We’re taking him here.

Djokovic, like Nadal, is a former champion in Rome. He is a four-time champ in men’s singles at the Italian Open and has experience here to lean on. No matter what happens in the men’s semifinals, we are sure to see some thrilling tennis moving forward.
