Nadal is typically considered the favorite in men’s singles at Roland Garros. He is the two-time defending champion at the upcoming Grand Slam right now. The prior winner before Nadal… Djokovic back in 2016.
These two player have reemerged atop the ATP Tour, along with Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer. As we head toward Roland Garros, Rafa has gathered some serious momentum following his win at the Italian Open.
Take a look at these top five favorites to win the 2019 French Open. Nadal is among them. Djokovic is there too. The title-win in Rome should do wonders to boost Rafa’s confidence at the clay court major.
Do not discount Djokovic though. A runner-up finish to the King of Clay is not so bad for the world number one, especially coupled with the way he has been playing the better part of a year now. Djokovic bounced back from time away due to injury with an impressive pace of successful play on the ATP Tour.
We could easily see both Nadal or Djokovic going far at the French Open. These two must be considered the players to beat in men’s singles right now. If the Italian Open is any indication of what to expect, it’s that both Rafa and Djokovic are on top of their game. Djokovic has won the past three majors in men’s singles and Nadal will look to change that.
Hats off to Nadal for winning yet another impressive title at the Italian Open. He took down both rising ATP stars and veteran legends and peers like Djokovic to earn the win. Now, all eyes look ahead to the French Open where the King of Clay will be someone to watch closely.
