Must Watch French Open Outside Contenders in Men’s Singles

Action at the 2019 French Open is here and we are gearing up for a thrilling Grand Slam on both the men’s and women’s side. Let’s dive deeper into the field.

The 2019 French Open is set to feature the very best in men’s singles tennis. As it stands, the King of Clay Rafael Nadal enters Paris as the defending champion. He is also carrying some serious momentum into Roland Garros having just taken the title at the Italian Open.

There are, however, some players that you need to bet watching outside the likes of Nadal and other favorites. We previously broke down the top five favorites in men’s singles at the French Open here, but there are some others to keep an eye on.

One of those outside contenders is Japanese tennis star Kei Nishikori. He is yet to win a title at a major tournament. Nishikori is surging recently though. The current world number seven has reached the quarterfinals twice at the French Open.

Nishikori also has a title win on the year, taking one in Brisbane. He has put together an impressive ATP singles record so far and could be a decent outside pick to make a deep run.

What about Fabio Fognini? The Italian tennis veteran is defying the odds right now. He took home a win at the 2019 Monte Carlo Masters, even defeating Nadal in the semifinals en route to a title. Fognini is an accomplished and proven veteran who is playing well this year.

Then, there are rising ATP stars such as Felix Auger Aliassime to lookout for. The young Canadian is in action in Lyon this week in preparation for the French Open. He already has one match win under his belt there, defeating John Millman to setup a meeting with Steve Johnson. Auger Aliassime is an example of an up and comer who could shock the field.
