Canadian tennis player Eugenie Bouchard is returning to the tennis courts this week as she is in action at the 2019 French Open. This play comes weeks after Genie stepped away from the WTA Tour for an indefinite amount of time. How will Bouchard fare at the upcoming Grand Slam?
Bouchard takes on Lesia Tsurenko first at Roland Garros. Tsurenko is the 27th seed in the women’s singles field this year at the major tournament.

These two player have only faced each other once throughout their careers. It was the Ukrainian tennis player who emerged victorious then. BUT, that was back in 2015 at the BNP Paribas Open.
Anything could happen this time around. It is very difficult to predict how Bouchard will fare at the French Open this year.
Previously, she has gone as far as the semifinals at Roland Garros. That was in 2014 when she also reached a career high of world number five in women’s singles tennis.
Last year, Tsurenko made it to the fourth round of play at the French Open. Despite Bouchard’s previous success at the Grand Slam, Tsurenko has a few more years worth of experience to lean on and needs to be considered the favorite in this upcoming matchup. Do not discount Genie though. This is going to be an interesting match to watch. Basically, if Bouchard wins, it’s all a bonus beyond this opening round match.
Bouchard is no stranger to sharing what she’s up to at both tournaments and off the courts. Check out her Instagram post here in Paris this week. She also took to Twitter here to show off what was waiting in the locker room at Roland Garros.
Elsewhere at the upcoming 2019 French Open, Simona Halep and others will headline the women’s singles field. On the men’s side of the action, both world number one Novak Djokovic and King of Clay Rafael Nadal must be considered the favorites. Take a look at these top five favorites in men’s singles this year. How do you think Eugenie Bouchard will fare as she makes her return to the tennis courts? Can she win her opener at Roland Garros?
