Ashleigh Barty jumps leaps and bounds in women’s singles rankings

Australian tennis star Ashleigh Barty is rocketing up the women’s singles rankings this week. Let’s take a closer look at her newfound success.
The momentum behind Ashleigh Barty has been building for some time now. This year’s French Open champion in women’s singles tennis has burst onto the scene for the better part of a year now. Following her title-run at Roland Garros, Barty jumps six places in the women’s singles rankings. She is now the world number two on the WTA Tour.
Another highlight to mention is that Barty is now in the top position in the Porsche Singles Race. Behind her is Petra Kvitova and Karolina Pliskova.
World number one Naomi Osaka retains her ranking in women’s singles but she drops into the fourth place in the Porsche Singles Race. Osaka fell in the round of 32 at Roland Garros this year after defeating Victoria Azarenka in the round of 64.
Osaka is the current Australian Open champion and defending US Open champ in women’s singles tennis. Last year, the Japanese tennis star also reached the third round at Wimbledon. Despite her success at both the US and Australian Opens, Osaka is yet to get past the third round at both the French Open and Wimbledon.
Barty also reached the third round at Wimbledon last year. She then made it into the fourth round of the US Open and continued to see success from there. The young Australian was one of our top five sleeper picks on the WTA Tour to start the year. Barty is without a doubt living up to the hype right now and is showing no signs of letting up.
