ATP 2021 is set to be an exciting year of tennis. Alexander Zverev has proven to be a threat this year, and here’s why next year will be no different.

The 2020 season of tennis has no doubt been a roller-coaster year for Alexander Zverev, and despite the many ups and downs, the young German can rest assured that his performance this year in one of the most difficult eras of tennis has been nothing short of strong and impactful. From his almost perfect run at the US Open, to his solid performance at the Roland Garros, and finally his most recent win at the Bett1HULKS Indoors in Cologne, here are 3 reasons why Alexander Zverev is going to be a huge threat in the ATP come 2021.

US Open Finalist

The 2020 US Open was a one-of-a-kind Grand Slam event, with the absence of crowds and strict COVID-19 regulations, yet this did not stop Zverev from overcoming all obstacles and dishing out one of the most solid performances of his career. He produced consistently well throughout the tournament and always showed a strong service and baseline game with convincing match statistics in terms of first and second service win percentages.

It was certainly not a walk in the park for Alexander Zverev nonetheless, as he was constantly challenged throughout his road to the finals and went through some tough 5 set matches, which demonstrated his elite fighting spirit and perseverance on the court. The final match against Dominic Thiem was no different, as the young Next Gen was destined to go for yet another 5 setter, in which he was only narrowly defeated in a 5th set tiebreak, to cap off his best-ever Grand Slam performance.

Roland Garros Performance

Moving forward, Alexander Zverev continued to showcase his abilities as a top 10 ATP performer by winning 2 of 3 of his early round matches in straight sets, and winning the other in an intense tie-breaker, once again revealing a strong mental fortitude and persistence to win. Unfortunately, Zverev’s Roland Garros campaign was to end in his fourth-round match against Jannick Sinner, in which the young German contracted a nasty flu to hinder his performance against a formidable foe.

Bett1HULKS Champion

Most recently, Alexander Zverev claimed the Bett1Hulks Indoor Championship in Cologne, Germany by taking down Next Gen star Felix Auger Aliassime, who defeated the 2nd seed Roberto Bautista Agut in the semi-final match. After performing a solid service and baseline game, as he had done all throughout the tournament, Zverev defeated the young Canadian in straight-sets to claim his 12th career title in his home country.
