The first set was all Berankis, as he dominated the points on both his first and second serve, winning 76% of the points of his first, and 73% on his second serve, according to Infosys Match Centre. Berankis was also 6/6 on net points, winning all the points when he came into the net.
In set number two, the level for both Berankis and Humbert dropped, as each of them had at least 20 unforced errors and less than 10 winners. Humbert actually had more chances to break Berankis in the set, as he had six opportunities to Berankis’ five. However, Berankis was able to covert one more break point than Humbert in the set, breaking Humbert the third and final time in the set at 4-4. Berankis would then hold serve to take the second set 6-4.
The third set was the most lopsided set in the match, as Humbert was able to take control. Humbert was better on both the first and second serve in the set, and generated five break point chances for himself, while Berankis only got one look at a break opportunity. Humbert would break Berankis twice on those five attempts, and would cruise in the set, taking the third 6-2.
Berankis would bounce back in fourth though, crushing 18 winners to go along with only 13 unforced errors. Humbert had 13 unforced errors as well, but only hit nine winners in the set. Both players had seven chances to break, but it was Berankis who got the only break in the set, breaking Humbert in the third game. Berankis would face some pressure when trying to close out the match at 5-4, but would save the two break points he faced to take the set 6-4, and win his second career match at the French.
Next up for Berankis will be the winner between Salvatore Caruso and James Duckworth, as Berankis will be looking to advance to the third round at Roland Garros for the first time in his career.
