Ymer was also much better on the big points, converting on break point opportunities 70% of the time, compared to 50% from Monfils. Ymer generated 10 break point chances for himself, converting on seven of them, while Monfils had eight chances to break, and converted four times, according to Infosys Match Centre.
For Karatsev, he actually led the match in first serve win percentage, receiving points won, aces, and winners, and yet only won one set. The biggest reason why Kohlschreiber was able to defeat Karatsev Thursday was because every time Kohlschreiber got a look at a break point, he converted.
In the first set, Karatsev did not get any break point chances, while Kohlschreiber got one look, and was able to convert, according to Infosys Match Centre. In the second set, Kohlschreiber did not get a single opportunity to break, but Karatsev had two chances, however, he was unable to convert on either of them. In set number three, Karatsev was able to get his only break of the match, which led to him taking the third set and forcing a fourth. In the fourth, Kohlschreiber had two chances to break, and took advantage, breaking both times to put the set out of reach and taking the match.
Next up for Ymer will be the 18th seed from Italy, Jannik Sinner, while for Kohlschreiber, he will face the 10th seed Diego Schwartzman in the third round.
