ATP Miami Open: The cinderella story of Christopher Eubanks
Fairytales are born in March
Christopher Eubanks has only made it to the second round of an ATP main draw event once.
That was back in July 2017 when he made it to the third round (quarter-finals) of the Atlanta Open.
In the last three years, Eubanks has made the main draw less than 10 times.
He came into the 2023 Miami Masters as a winner of just 11 of his 39 ATP matches.
The 26 year-old American has dominated on the challenger level and ITF Circuit, with three titles to his name.
However, he has not done the same at the ATP level.
Not until this week.
2023 Miami Masters Qualifier Day 2
Eubanks, the 26 year old American, narrowly edged out #139 Lukas Klein in a third-set tiebreaker in the qualification final of Miami Open to gain entry into the main draw.
Miami Masters Quarterfinal
Since that qualifier, Eubanks has won four straight matches, while only dropping one set.
From battling it out with a Top 20 and former ATP Masters 1000 winner in #20 Borna Coric, to defeating an always tricky veteran in #49 Adrian Mannarino, it’s safe to say Eubanks is playing at his very best right now.
However, Eubanks’s next challenge will be even greater.
Later today, Eubanks will have to face #5 Daniil Medvedev, who is among one of the best on the ATP tour, and thrives in fast hard-court conditions.
Medvedev has won 22 out of his last 23, with his lone loss coming to Carlos Alcaraz, who well, is Carlos Alcaraz.
While Eubanks will start as a huge underdog against the former US Open 2021 winner, his cindarella story has officially thrown him into the spotlight.
Even more, regardless of his result against Daniil Medvedev, Eubanks has now officially entered the top 100 for the first time of his career, standing at #85.
This new ranking will give him more opportunities to gain entry into the main draw as the season progresses.
