The US Open on both the women’s and men’s side has ushered in a new number one in the rankings. Carlos Alcaraz was number one on the ATP tour, and though he’s done nothing wrong at the tournament, he was overtaken by Novak Djokovic. On the WTA tour, top-seed Iga Swiatek lost in round four and she will lose her top ranking to Aryna Sabalenka.

Sabalenka is still playing at the US Open, too. Swiatek won the major last year, but maybe along with taking her ranking, Sabalenka will also take Swiatek‘s US Open crown. Or maybe Marketa Vondrousova, the Wimbledon champion, will defeat all challengers and take her second straight Grand Slam.

Or this could be the dawning of the Coco Gauff era. She’s played extremely well the last two months and keeps rolling. She’s a real threat to win her first major. Here are the guesses for who wins all the women’s quarterfinal matches.

US Open 2023 women’s quarterfinals: Picking who wins

20th-seed Jelena Ostapenko versus 6th-seed Coco Gauff

Ostapenko just has Swiatek’s number. Oddly, Swiatek still hasn’t beaten Ostapenko in four matches, so Ostapenko beating Swiatek at the US Open isn’t all that surprising. Gauff and Ostapenko have faced each other just twice, and they’ve split the meetings. Both have played well over the year, though Gauff has been a bit better lately against higher competition overall. Still, I think Ostapenko will get another win with aggressive play.

Prediction: Ostapenko in three sets

30th-seed Sorana Cirstea against 10th-seed Karolina Muchova

Cirstea just keeps humming along and under the radar. Heck, she could end up winning the tournament because the US Open has a way of giving us surprise winners. I think Muchova takes this match, though, as she just has a better understanding of what it takes to win in the quarterfinals in majors.

Prediction: Muchova in straight sets

Ninth-seed Marketa Vondrousova versus 17th-seed Madison Keys

If I was picking the winner of the final right now, I would go with Vondrousova. She’s playing with so much confidence and knows she can win a Grand Slam. I think her forehand is more consistent than Keys and she takes this match.

Prediction: Vondrousova in straight sets

23rd-seed Zheng Qinwen against second-seed Aryna Sabalenka

Sabalenka is the new number one on the WTA, but will she hold on to the ranking long? Either way, she takes this match. Her serve will be too much for Zheng Qinwen.

Prediction: Sabalenka in straight sets
