Novak Djokovic will enter the arena of yet another grand slam final in less than 12 hours. The match- which commences at 9 PM UK time, 6 AM Australian Time, and 4 PM New York City time, is a seriously interesting final to speculate about. The US Open, notorious for adjusting the start time of its finals, will be played at quite an unusual hour to most of the other tennis finals around the world. As the world adjusts to a 4 PM US final, let’s have a look at what we have in store for one of the most compelling finals in years. Here are the angles:

1. Medvedev going up 2 sets to love over Novak Djokovic

Medvedev has been flying out of the blocks all week at this year’s US Open. The talk has all been about Djokovic making another US Open final (and rightfully so), but Medvedev is in a zone this week that is scary to witness. When Medvedev is in one of these streaks, the match can be over before you even know it.  Picture his Australian Open final vs. Nadal, where the match seemed like it was about to be over before it wasn’t. That was of course until Nadal decided he hadn’t even gotten started yet. In the history of grand slam finals, you will be hard-pressed to find a player who can come into a big match and fly through it so quickly. The 2021 US Open final, one of the most high-stakes matches of Djokovic’s career was something that Medvedev somehow out-clutched and kept speeding through. He was serving balls one after the other in what felt like seconds- and the deep angles out wide made it seem like Medvedev was serving to Djokovic from from uphill.

2. Djokovic being in the zone and straight-setting Daniil Medvedev

On the flip side, when Novak Djokovic is in the zone, simply turning on the TV to check the scores can be enough to reveal Djokovic being up 2-sets-to-love up. Djokovic is that clinical a player. These textbook pose is Novak blinking and looking down at his racquet in an exercise in extreme concentration. It is almost indescribable how Djokovic is able to go into these positions with such ease.  A prime example of this was the 2021 Australian Open final. Many believed that Medvedev was the favourite, or at worst, Djokovic would take the match to 5 sets. Neither scenario happened and Djokovic beat Medvedev in a grand slam final 7-5 6-2 6-2. Djokovic that night put to bed any doubts over his ability to play major contenders in grand slam finals.

The result of the match in 12 hours time is truly a coin toss as to which outcome will occur. Of course, Medvedev winning in 5 sets or Djokovic winning in 5 sets is also a possibility. Similarly, both winning in 4 sets is also a chance.

All in all, what do you reckon the outcome of tomorrow’s match will be?
