27-year-old Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has been a quality player on the ATP tour for many years, including reaching a career-high No. 14 in 2025. Yet, somehow, he had never won an ATP-sanctioned title. That was, until he defeated Ethan Quinn in the final of the 2026 Mallorca Championships.

Quinn is also trending in the right direction ahead of Wimbledon, which begins on Monday, and he has a massive serve and forehand. His power often put the Spaniard under duress, but Davidovich Fokina was more consistent and used a remarkably proficient backhand to steal points at times.

Make no mistake, though. His victory in Mallorca was no accident. He played brilliantly throughout the tournament, including defeating Grigor Dimitrov in the quarterfinals. While he is 5'11", a relatively shorter player on an increasingly tall ATP tour, he has a very good serve, and he moves around the court well.

He was able to keep points alive against Quinn that many players might not have, and the longer a rally went, the Spaniard had a much greater advantage. He just clipped lines at times, but good players do that. Quinn wasn't losing the match; Davidovich Fokina was winning it.

A tight first set saw Quinn get a late break of his opponent after Davidovich Fokina had gotten an earlier break. The set ended in a tense tie-break, but the Spaniard was able to tough through to take it 7-4.

The second set, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina improved his efficiency on his serve and kept holding, but he got another break of Quinn midway through, and the American was forced to try to play catch-up throughout the rest of the set. Quinn's game sets up nicely on grass courts, and he might make a deep run at Wimbledon, but so might Davidovich Fokina.

Quinn was able to hold on to get to 3-5, but Davidoch Fokina had the match and tournament on his racket. After failing to win any of his previous five finals, including two in 2025 that he came exceedingly close to winning, the Spaniard was able to hold and earn his first ATP title.
