As a human being, Alex Eala is gracious and positively self-aware. She knows how popular she is, but she doesn't handle it with arrogance. If she could only make inroads at Grand Slam events, her fame would rise even more.
She is a fantastic draw for tennis, but unless she begins coming close to winning a major, her popularity feels somewhat hollow. She is taking a different path in singles than Anna Kournikova did, but Eala might be on the verge of following Kournikova accidentally: Being famous for the sake of being famous, not because her results in the sport are worthy of that.
Kournikova had high-end success in doubles (winning two Australian Opens), which often goes underrated. In singles, she was far less successful. At majors, she reached one semifinal (Wimbledon 1997) and one quarterfinal (Australian Open 2001), but often struggled to reach the fourth round.

Her popularity appeared somewhat hollow because of her lack of success in singles. She was an effervescent person and worthy of praise, of course, but other, more successful players were overshadowed at times by Kournikova.
Eala is still only 21 years old and should have many more years to achieve great success, but her age can't be an excuse for a lack of relative success at this point. Coco Gauff is still just 22 years old and has won two Grand Slams. Her first was at the US Open in 2023 when she was just 19 years old.
Another growing rival of Eala's is a good friend, Iva Jovic. Jovic beat the Filipina at the US Open in the third round. The American is only 18 years old.
Alexandra Eala's massive popularity is good for the sport of tennis, potentially helping grow markets like the Philippines and other Asian nations that could churn out fantastic players. Eala's value is important because of that, but she also needs to start doing better at the most important tournaments.
She has made the fourth round of a major once so far, and that was Wimbledon this year (where 21-year-old Linda Noskova won the tournament). She has appeared in seven main draws of Grand Slams in the last two seasons and lost in the first round in four of those.
At WTA 1000s, she reached the quarterfinals of the Dubai Championships this year and the semifinals of the Miami Open last year. In the last two years combined, in 12 WTA 1000 tournaments, she has lost in the third round or earlier seven times.
Alex Eala's personality is perfect for getting lots of attention in terms of tennis, but she is now at the age where she needs to prove worthy of that attention with success in the sport. That is lacking overall (she has won only one tournament), but hopefully will change quite a bit in 2027.
