British tennis star Arthur Fery is coming for his countrymen, despite his recent loss at the Cincinnati Open, and he's certainly on his way to overtaking current British players Jack Draper and Cam Norrie in popularity. What Fery has been doing this year is drawing a lot of attention, not just amongst Brits, but tennis fans everywhere.

Fery has yet to win a singles title, so his greatest achievement to date is his sensational run to the semi-finals at Wimbledon, where he finally bowed out after losing to Germany's Alexander Zverev. If you didn't know Fery's name before then, you do now. He was ranked outside the top-100 at the time, after all.

Speaking of now, Fery is quickly rising in the ATP rankings. Furthermore, he's quickly rising in his countrymen's ranks. He's already left Jack Draper in the dust (ranked 143rd in the world), and he's hot on the heels of Cam Norrie (ranked 35th in the world). If Fery keeps it up, he'll soon be Britain's top-ranked player, and his recognition is only growing

Great Britain passes over Jack Draper to hand Arthur Fery a Davis Cup spot

Playing in this year's Davis Cup won't be Fery's first appearance, but it's almost more important given the trajectory his career is on. Fery represented Britain last year at the Davis Cup in a play-off tie against Poland in September, beating Olaf Pieczkowski 6-4, 6-2. The win helped Great Britain secure its place in the 2026 Davis Cup qualifiers.

Fery's Davis Cup selection should have been considered regardless of other British players' statuses, but the current complications with Draper sure helped. Draper has continued to struggle mightily with injuries since last year. His fitness and injury concerns are valid, which led Britain to leave him off this year's Davis Cup team, opening the door for Fery.

Fery's selection is well deserved, and Britain will be better for it, along with Henry Patten, Lloyd Glasspool, and Norrie. Team Britain will take on Ecuador in the event's second round of qualifiers. As for Fery, he couldn't be more thrilled to represent his country again, and he's ready for whatever amount of pressure comes with it.

“I’m really proud to be able to represent Great Britain again,” Fery said in a press release distributed by the Lawn Tennis Association. "It’s going to be a bit of a different scenario this time, at home, in the World Group, and trying to qualify for the Final 8. There might be some extra pressure, but I’m ready for it.”

While Davis Cup results don't affect a player's ATP ranking, it will still be a great opportunity for Fery to showcase his game, which continues to improve with each tournament he plays. Leon Smith, Britain's Davis Cup captain, has certainly noticed, and British tennis fans may be watching the rise of an eventual top-10-ranked player in the making.
