The 2025 edition of the Miami Open is done. Once again, the tournament was troubled by the weather. The problem is that the tournament could do something about that.

Instead of playing inside Hard Rock Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins, a devoted tennis facility could be built for the event. This could include a domed center court, so the weather would never factor into most of the important matches. Would it cost money to create a facility? Yes, but this is a Masters 1000 tournament after all.

Still, the tournament gave us some magic moments. Some newer players have to come out of the Miami Open feeling pretty good about their futures. Below are some winners and losers from the tournament.

2025 Miami Open winners and losers

Winner - Jakub Mensik

The most obvious one. The 19-year-old won his first Masters 1000 event and will increase to number 23 in the ATP rankings. Part of the way he got there was by defeating Novak Djokovic in not one but two tie-breaks in the Miami Open final. Djokovic has been a master of tie-breaks over his career, and Mensik has to gain a lot of confidence from how he won.

The unfortunate part for Mensik is that he might struggle to build on the momentum gained by winning in Miami immediately. The clay-court season gets underway in April, and that, so far, has not been the Czech's best surface.

Loser - Novak Djokovic

Djokovic had a great run to the final, but he once again failed to get his 100th tour-level title. He now seems to be running out of time to get that. He has only reached four finals since the beginning of 2024, and he has lost three. His lone victory came in the Olympics, which is not an ATP event.

If it seemed like young tennis was passing the all-time great, that will seem even more so after Mensik's victory. Djokovic's next hope for title 100 might be trying to win one more Grand Slam.

Winner - Alexandra Eala

Another teenager who made her mark in Miami is 19-year-old Eala. She did not win the event, but she made it to the semifinals before losing in three sets to Jessica Pegula. Before losing to the American, Eala defeated WTA No. 2 Iga Swiatek in straight sets in the quarterfinals and WTA No. 5 Madison Keys in the round of 32.

She has moved up to No. 71 on the tour, which is almost certainly just the beginning. It would not be surprising if she got inside the top 20 by the end of the year.

Loser - Danielle Collins

The first half of 2024 was remarkable for Collins. After announcing she would retire at the end of the year, she went on a run of playing some of the best tennis of her career, including winning the Miami Open. Since the Olympics last July, when she made the quarterfinals, Collins has a record of 5-8.

She lost in the round of 16 at the Miami Open, and dropped points since she picked up 1,000 last year at the tournament. She is now down 11 spots in the WTA rankings to number 33.
