Emma Raducanu opens mouth and inserts foot about Andy Murray

Emma Raducanu cannot seem to help herself when it comes to slighting Andy Murray.

Andy Murray is likely too much of a gentleman to admit as much, but one might safely assume he remains highly peeved at Emma Raducanu. For one, Raducanu ended Murray's career run at Wimbledon after she pulled out of their scheduled mixed doubles match to focus on her singles. The match likely would have been Murray's final one at the grass-court major.

Raducanu is also getting a bit of a reputation for being an arrogant player even though she hasn't won much in a very long time. Is she capable of excellence? Sure. She won the 2021 US Open, after all, with one of the easiest runs to the title in recent memory. She still took advantage of the situation given her.

One tennis journalist even commented on social media based on people who knew Raducanu, she changed as a person after she began getting high-dollar endorsements. She allegedly took that as a sign that she could "look down" on people and have a sense of entitlement that she has not truly earned.

Emma Raducanu finds a new way to insult Andy Murray

She also speaks sometimes without thinking of how one might interpret her comments as being disrespectful. When asked in a press conference ahead of the US Open if tennis, especially British tennis, felt different now that Murray has retired, Raducanu's might have come across as fairly rude and uncaring about Murray.

She said, "It doesn’t feel different at all. Tennis is unforgiving in that sense. No matter who you are, it just moves on. Of course, Andy has achieved amazing things. I watched him win this tournament but yeah, it’s fast-paced like life - it’s old news the next day."

The last part is what many on social media into a tizzy. Calling Murray "old news" when he has only been retired for a month is somewhat cruel. The other bit, of course, is that Murray will be remembered long after he stopped playing and the likelihood is that Raducanu will quickly be forgotten unless she somehow greatly and consistently improves her form.

One X/Twitter user said of Raducanu's comments, "She’s a disgrace man. A little bit of respect?"

Another wrote, "Oh my goodness, she really doesn't like Andy Murray does she? But the most saddest part is she doesn't even seem to respect him."

Imagine, if you will, Novak Djokovic or Roger Federer saying the same comments Raducanu did about Murray. If you find that impossible to imagine then that is fair because Djokovic and Federer would have never said such words and they had to play Murray in contested and important matches. Raducanu simply needed to have a bit more class and tact in answering the question, though maybe she is incapable of those qualities.
