Karolina Muchova, the 2023 French Open finalist and 2023 US Open semifinalist and one of the best comeback stories of last season, has shared a health update. Muchova was forced to withdraw from the WTA Finals and has not played in 2024 because of a wrist injury sustained in the US Open that she was trying to rehabilitate.

Unfortunately, rehab efforts did not succeed. In Muchova's latest social media post. she reported that she had a successful surgical procedure on her right wrist. Though she said she was "tired and sad," she plans to do "all I can to see you on the court again soon."

Muchova is no stranger to dealing with serious injuries. An abdominal tear curtalied her 2022 season. She is 27 years old and despite the injury interruptions to her career, she has performed well at the Grand Slams since 2019. In addition her 2023 successes, she was a 2019 and 2021 Wimbledon quarterfinalist and the 2021 Australian Open semifinalist.

Can Muchova return before the French Open?

Muchova would like to get back on the court as soon as possible, but a timeline for her return is unknown. The French Open begins May 20 which gives her about three months to recuperate should she be able to play at Roland Garros.

Ideally, she would return quicker to get some match play. She has been out of tennis for nearly six months and will need time to get reacclimated before playing a two-week Grand Slam tournament.

Muchova could also be part of a crowded and well-established Czech Republic team who plays at the Paris Olympics, also at Roland Garros beginning July 26. With Karolina Pliskova, Barbora Krejcikova, Marketa Vondrousova, and Katerina Siniakova, this team, if healthy, would be tough to beat.
