We are just a few matches away from crowning the winners of the US Open. The second day of quarterfinals will be held on Wednesday. Among the matches are both top seeds, Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek.

The women's semifinals will be held on Thursday with the final on Saturday. Whichever player wins on Wednesday will have a day less of rest than the players who played on Tuesday. At least the Wednesday winners play one another.

The men will get a normal day of rest for a Grand Slam and won't play their semifinal matches until Friday. The final will be held on Sunday.

Preview and predictions for Wednesday's US Open quarterfinal matches

22-seed Beatriz Haddad Maia versus Karolina Muchova

Muchova reached the semifinals of the US Open in 2023, so she knows how to get to a certain level of success at the event. The best Haddad Maia had done at the tournament prior to this year was the second round. Still, she was dominant against Anna Kalinskaya in the third round so she is clearly able to play extremely well.

Muchova will win this in three sets, and then lose to the winner of the next match on this list.

Six-seed Jessica Pegula versus top-seed Iga Swiatek

These two have played each other nine times with Swiatek winning six of them. They have split their last four meetings, though, all coming in 2023. In other words, while Swiatek has been so successful over the last few years some players might find her intimidating, but Pegula will not.

Plus, Pegula is playing maybe the best tennis of her career. She won the Canadian Open and lost in the final in Cincinnati. She has not lost a set at the US Open so far. The guess here is that Pegula pulls the upset in two sets.

10-seed Alex de Minaur versus 25-seed Jack Draper

Draper might still be fighting for some respect after he had a situation with Felix Auger-Aliassime where Draper appeared to double-hit a ball on match point but didn't own it. This is a shame that hopefully won't stick with the Brit for long because he is capable of becoming the best British player since Andy Murray.

De Minaur has made himself into a top-ten player, mostly by playing a great many tournaments. He does have two titles this year, but he has also been bounced in the first round of a couple. He has the speed to cover the entire court, as well as any player.

This might be one of the more exciting matches for tennis fans. Neither player is probably going to overpower the other. It might come down to who can outlast the other. De Minaur will win in five sets.

Five-seed Daniil Medvedev versus top-seed Jannik Sinner

Sinner somehow lost his first set of the US Open 2-6 to Mackenzie McDonald and has spent the rest of the tournament seemingly making sure no one else gets any thoughts about defeating him. Tommy Paul gave him a decent run through the first two sets in the fourth round before the Italian dismantled the American 6-1 in the third set.

Medvedev has dropped only one set at the event as well and that was in the first round. In the fourth round, he dropped four games total against Nuno Borges. The Russian is playing well enough to win his second US Open.

Medvedev and Sinner have had a weird history. The Russian holds the lead in the head-to-head 7-5, but Medvedev won the first six meetings before Sinner won the next five. The Russian beat the Italian at Wimbledon in July. Sinner seems driven to make sure people forget about his failed drug tests in March, and he will win this in five sets.
