After the Grand Slam season is over, it may be difficult for fans to keep engaged with the sport, especially since the tennis calendar seems to never have an end date. However, the Laver Cup brings something new to the sport, something refreshing after seeing the best in the world compete against each other at the highest level all season.

There are many unique and special things about the event, which is why the Laver Cup is great for tennis as a whole.

Sure, there are fans and former players who believe the event is just a big exhibition held to bring in more money for the top players. Yes, there is no doubt that the Laver Cup attracts the best players because of a big payday, but if you really sit down and watch the event, you will see that it is nothing like an exhibition. Everyone competing wants to win, and it led to some spectacular tennis in this year's edition and previous ones.

Why the Laver Cup is great for tennis

One thing we miss out on in an individual sport is the interaction between teammates. Fans of team sports like football and basketball love to see behind-the-scenes looks at teammates talking strategy, supporting each other, and making each other laugh. With the Laver Cup, we get that inside look all weekend long.

The uniqueness of the Laver Cup

One of the best parts of the Laver Cup is having the teams sit right next to the players on the court. Watching Carlos Alcaraz coach Stefanos Tsitsipas, Grigor Dimitrov coach Alcaraz, and the Americans on Team World cheering each other on was awesome. As a tennis fan, you are not going to see that anywhere else on the ATP Tour.

Another reason why the Laver Cup is great for tennis is because of the tennis itself. Many might think it would be a boring exhibition and choose not to watch it, but in doing so, they miss out on a lot of amazing tennis. Carlos Alcaraz played nearly flawlessly all weekend, while Frances Tiafoe gave everything he had in his victory over Daniil Medvedev.

Then there was Alexander Zverev, who kept Team Europe alive with his victory over Tiafoe and celebrated with an emotional scream in front of the home fans. Both teams really wanted to win, and as a result, we as tennis fans were spoiled with exceptional tennis from the beginning to the end.

Perhaps the greatest part of the Laver Cup that forgets to get mentioned is how the event brings tennis royalty from around the world together. In addition to the current best players in the world, we also get to see past champions like Roger Federer, Rod Laver, Andre Agassi, Yannick Noah, and Boris Becker, along with John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg, who captained Team World and Team Europe respectively. Seeing current and past greats of this sport all in the same place interacting with one another is incredible and unique to the Laver Cup.

Although there will always be some people who just view it as a pointless exhibition, those who love the history of the sport will find joy in watching this special event take place each year. The Laver Cup is unlike anything else on the ATP Tour, and that is a great thing for the growth of tennis moving forward.
