Judy Murray has been one of the most present moms in tennis over the last couple of decades. Her son, Andy Murray, was one of the best players of his era, but he also seemingly got along with his mother quite well. That is a good thing as many in tennis have had issues with overbearing parents. The Murrays appear quite functional.
This year, Judy was working on a project for an Andy Murray tennis center close to Murray's hometown of Dunblane, Scotland. That appears to have washed out, though, as, during an interview with The Herald, Judy said that the persons in charge of tennis in Scotland simply do not appear interested in helping build the legacy of their most famous son.
Judy said that Scottish authorities have done little to honor Andy. There was no 10-year anniversary celebration of Murray winning Wimbledon or ceremony when he retired. This appears quite odd because Andy is by far the greatest Scottish tennis player in history. It is almost as if Scotland doesn't want to pretend tennis truly exists.
Judy Murray gets mad on behalf of Andy Murray and Nick Kyrgios disses Jannik Sinner again
Judy said, "I don’t have any confidence in the leadership of Tennis Scotland and that’s a major reason for me not to get involved in anything else here. Even when it was the 10-year anniversary of Andy winning Wimbledon, they didn’t do anything, nor when he retired. But it’s never been about celebrating his achievements, it was about using them to increase the profile of tennis in Scotland and the UK and reach communities that had previously been excluded."
In completely different news, Nick Kyrgios keeps chirping about Jannik Sinner's failed drug tests. Sinner failed the tests in March at Indian Wells but has yet to be disciplined. He might not be. The International Tennis Integrity Agency found the Italian innocent of any intentional wrongdoing. The World Anti-Doping Agency has appealed the ITIA's finding.
Kyrgios has been critical of Sinner not being suspended since the tennis world learned of the news in August. The Australian has called for the current ATP No. 1 to be suspended for a year or two. He believes tennis is not being played on a fair field if some players are possibly allowed to take banned substances and others are not.
But Kyrgios found a new agitation recently. Tennis Australia gave Sinner's coach, Darren Cahill, the 2024 Coaching Excellence award. Kyrgios, of course, thinks Sinner cheated, so how would the coaching be all that good? The Australian took to social media to post, "This is a joke right – have some class and integrity people."
This was after Kyrgios responded to a The Tennis Letter post that quotes Sinner as saying, "It was a tough time. I couldn’t talk to anyone about it. I couldn’t vent or get help." Kyrgios replied, "Yes. You tested for steroids. Very hard to talk to other people who aren’t."
