Top 10 Best Returners in Tennis Today

Last week we looked at the Top Ten Best Servers in Tennis Today, but a great return game can neutralize a big serve. As with most sports, great defense is key to winning championships. In the old days, a service return was just the shot that needed to be hit before rushing the net. With the way racket technology has improved over the years, a great return game leads to huge results. It’s no wonder that most of the players on our list are ranked near the top of the ATP Rankings.

The best returner of all time is undoubtedly Andre Agassi.

The best returner of all time is undoubtedly Andre Agassi. Not only could Agassi nullify the biggest serves in the game, but he could be aggressive against them. Agassi’s return helped earn him eight grand slam titles and a place in the “best of all time” conversation. While not many would argue with Agassi being the best returner tennis has ever seen, there are names on this list that are challenging his reign.

Some great returners have recently left or are soon to leave the game as well. Nikolay Davydenko’s stature was small, but his groundstrokes were awesome. His return could frustrate the best servers in the game. This season Lleyton Hewitt is most likely a farewell tour, but he has left his mark on the game. Rusty’s return was the best in the business for many years. Both Davydenko and Hewitt rode their returns to No.1 in the rankings despite meager serves. It goes to show how valuable a great rerun can be.
