The giant killer didn’t have what it took the knock down another at the All England Club Monday. Jelena Jankovic couldn’t keep pace with the strength of Agnieszka Radwanska as she was shown the exit in straight sets losing 7-5, 6-4 in round four of Wimbledon.

This is the eighth time these two powerhouses have met one another with Radwanska leading the way with five wins. The Serb was last to win at Rome last year where she fought back the Pole to take the victory in the quarterfinals. The two have been on a tear through the tournament with huge wins in their matches but the leverage hangs slightly on Jankovic’s end.

Saturday was the end of Wimbledon for defending champion Petra Kvitova, as she could not hold back Jankovic in three sets. With her out of the bottom draw, the fight for being the best comes in the fourth round where one could possibly be in the final.

More from Majors

Jankovic made her stance in the first game forcing Radwanska into deuce on her serve. After three breaks she took the victory over the Pole to break serve. Radwanska made it a tie with her work on deuce to even up play between the two players. It became a trade off where through five games, Radwanska leveled up with the Serb to make the set one to fight to brink for.

Jankovic returned control to her end working Radwanska in the set’s fourth deuce to break out 4-3. She added a fifth for measure with a triple break point to serve for the match in the ninth. The Serb couldn’t close the door on such a strong adversary as she rallied to a pair of games consecutively to force more games to be played. Radwanska got into a solid groove where she out powered Jankovic to win the set 7-5 ending it in 61 minutes.

  • Jankovic had a better first serve percentage than Radwanska but with the Pole having a slight advantage on returns it was the one stat that had her leading the match against the Serb.

Both players split the first four games of the second set until Radwanska found some extra energy that helped her break away from the competition. She won the next pair to take a 4-2 lead before Jankovic made her move for attack. She won two points on serve in Game Seven and later forced deuce to win again.

Radwanska ended the fight from Jankovic taking a 5-4 lead as her opportunity to end the Serb arrived. On match point with Radwanska on serve, a four shot rally ended with Jankovic serving the ball just outside the line to put the 2012 finalist at Wimbledon into the next round of the tournament meeting American Madison Keys in the quarterfinals.
