Top 10 Tennis Players in the Open Era: Men’s Singles

#4 – Rod Laver

Rod Laver had a career that bridged the gap between pre Open Era tennis and the world we know today. His record of 200 singles titles would dwarf those set by others solely playing in the Open Era.

The Australian tennis star has 11 Grand Slam singles titles to his name, five of which came in the Open Era, and is a former world No. 1. It is often difficult to debate where Laver falls in the list of the greatest tennis players of all-time. Many experts have him at No. 1. Laver is a former amateur world No. 1 as well and contributed to 5 Australian titles for the Davis Cup in an era when the cup was considered on par with the Grand Slams. There is no question that Laver belongs on the list.
