Caroline Wozniacki wins her two opening matches in Dubai. Here’s a look at how the WTA singles action is unfolding so far.
Caroline Wozniacki is back in action at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships. She just wrapped up a strong week in Doha where she lost a finals match to Karolina Pliskova.
The Qatar Open champion has not fared as well as Wozniacki, however, in Dubai. Pliskova was upset by Kristina Mladenovic in her opening match. Pliskova was the world No. 3 and No. 2 seeded player at this week’s tournament.

Wozniacki, on the other hand, wins both of her first two matches in Dubai despite the quick turnaround between action in Qatar and Dubai.
The Dane is the No. 10 seed in the tournament and did not have an opening round bye. She wins both of her first two matches in straight sets to advance. Wozniacki has risen in the rankings since the second half of 2016 and now finds herself as the current world No. 15 this week.
Also winning her opening round matches is Monica Puig. She defeated the tournament’s No. 15 seed, Caroline Garcia, in her second round match in three sets.
The biggest upset thus far involves Dominika Cibulkova. The world No. 5 is the No. 3 seed at the tournament this year and was stunned by Russian tennis player, Ekaterina Makarova, in three sets. The early exit could impact Cibulkova’s chances in the WTA singles rankings this week.
The tournament’s No. 5 seed, Garbiñe Muguruza, retired in her first set.
World No. 2 and the tournament’s top seed, Angelique Kerber, is in action today for her opening round match. Stay tuned to see if Kerber can bounce back this week in Dubai. Caroline Wozniacki will be in action again tomorrow in the round of 16.
