Both Wozniacki and Svitolina are players to watch throughout all of 2017. Now, however, Svitolina makes headlines by breaking into the WTA top 10 with her win over the Dane.
Svitolina defeats Wozniacki 6-4, 6-2.
The Ukrainian tennis player’s week also featured a huge win over world No. 2 Angelique Kerber. She defeated the German tennis player in a semifinals match in straight sets.
The week is not a disappointment for Wozniacki. She has reached two finals matches in her last two tournaments and has seen herself rise in the rankings throughout the first two months of 2017. She will be a player to watch in the weeks leading up to the 2017 French Open.
Elina Svitolina is now the WTA women’s singles No. 10. It is the highest ranking that the young Ukrainian player has achieved thus far in her career. Her 2017 campaign has been phenomenal up to this point. Earlier this month, Svitolina also took home the title at the Taiwan Open.
With only two singles losses on the year, Svitolina is playing as though she belongs with the best in women’s singles tennis. One of her two losses came at the hands of world No. 3 Karolina Pliskova in the semifinals at Brisbane. Even her losses this year have been strong.
Look for both Svitolina and Wozniacki to continue playing well in the weeks leading up to action at Roland Garros.
