The defending champion faces American tennis player Sam Querrey in his quarterfinals match. Querrey is also still alive in the doubles portion of the ATP tournament. The American pulled an upset over fifth seeded David Goffin in order to reach a meeting with Thiem.
Another American, Steve Johnson, is in action against third seeded Marin Cilic. Johnson is looking to continue his strong run in Acapulco. He upset fellow countryman John Isner early in the tournament.
Rafael Nadal is back after his finals appearance at Melbourne Park. The Spanish tennis player faces Yoshihito Nishioka in his quarterfinals match at the Mexican Open. Nadal has not dropped a single set so far in Acapulco and lost just two games in his previous match.
Top-seeded Novak Djokovic faces Australian Nick Kyrgios in one of the more anticipated quarterfinals matches. The two have not met in competitive ATP singles action. Djokovic, the world No. 2, is the clear favorite but anything can happen when Kyrgios is on the court.
The quarterfinals at the Mexican Open feature some of the best players in men’s singles tennis including two prior champions in Thiem and Nadal. Stay tuned to see how the matches unfold.
