Elena Vesnina wins women’s singles title at Indian Wells Masters

Elena Vesnina defeats Svetlana Kuznetsova in three sets to win the women’s singles title at the 2017 BNP Paribas Open.
Elena Vesnina completes a phenomenal week of tennis at Indian Wells.
The Russian tennis player defeats Svetlana Kuznetsova in the finals at the BNP Paribas Open. She takes home the title, winning 6-7 (6), 7-5, 6-4.

The victory comes over fellow countrywoman Kuznetsova. After a tough first set loss, Vesnina rebounded in the following two.
Now the world No. 13, Vesnina entered Indian Wells with an outside chance at glory. Kuznetsova, the current world No. 7, was the clear favorite in the finals meeting. An excellent week of tennis for Vesnina, however, showed that she had an edge entering Sunday’s match.
En route to the finals match, the world No. 13 defeated Angelique Kerber and Venus Williams among other top women’s singles players. The finals meeting with Kuznetsova was Vesnina’s most difficult of the week. Managing to take advantage of her opponent’s mistakes, Vesnina came out on top over the two-time Grand Slam singles champion Kuznetsova.
The win is huge for the Russian tennis player. It places her closer to the top ten on the WTA Tour. Look for Elena Vesnina to take advantage of her momentum gained at Indian Wells.
