Madison Keys sees an unexpected early exit from the 2017 Charleston Open. Fellow American Shelby Rogers upsets the top seeded player.
Madison Keys comes into Charleston with it being just her third WTA tournament on the year.
As the world No. 11, Keys is the top seed at this week’s Charleston Open. She has previously finished runner-up at the tournament in 2015. Angelique Kerber won the title that year.

Shelby Rogers is the current world No. 52.
The 24-year-old tennis player is also a Charleston resident and has been a ballgirl at the tournament in the past.
Rogers defeats keys 4-6, 6-1, 6-1.
After a tough first set, Rogers roared back and cruised to an easy three-set victory over the top seeded Keys. Next up for Rogers is Naomi Osaka of Japan. The 19-year-old Japanese player is the current world No. 49.
The loss is a tough one for Madison Keys. She is attempting to bounce back from injury and appears to still need more matches under her belt.
Once she has more time on the court in 2017 though, there is no doubt that Keys will again be in the top ten in women’s singles tennis. The field is now wide open at the Charleston Open. Stay tuned to see how the actions unfolds at the WTA tournament.
