Eugenie Bouchard at the 2014 French Open

2014 saw Eugenie Bouchard advancing deep in the Australian Open. She would do that yet again at Roland Garros.

The breakout star saw wins over Shahar Pe’er, Julia Gorges, and Johanna Larsson in her first three matches. Next up was Angelique Kerber. Bouchard wasted no time with the favored Kerber, winning in straight sets. She took the match 6-1, 6-2.

After Kerber came Carla Suarez Navarro.

Genie won a hard fought three-set victory to meet Maria Sharapova in the semifinals. While she would lose to Sharapova, Eugenie Bouchard challenged the Russian tennis star throughout their three-set match. Sharapova would be the eventual champion at the 2014 French Open.
