Reaching the finals at Nuremburg, Eugenie Bouchard faced Karolina Pliskova. While Pliskova would go on to win the doubles championship at the tournament, she could not close out in women’s singles. Bouchard rose the occasion in their finals meeting.
Taking the match 6–2, 4–6, 6–3, Genie fought hard to earn her first ever WTA singles title. She became the first Canadian to win a WTA singles title in six years. That win, combined with her strong play throughout all of 2014 thrust the young Canadian into the spotlight.
Now, Eugenie Bouchard is aiming to reach her career heights yet again.
Competing with a fantastic field of both veteran and young talent in women’s singles tennis, Bouchard must find herself. At just 23-years-old, however, the young Canadian will remain in contention for several years to come. Stay tuned to see how she fares throughout the rest of 2017 and her career.
