John Isner pulls off Paris Masters upset over Grigor Dimitrov

John Isner completes a three set upset over sixth seed Grigor Dimitrov at the Paris Masters. He is one of many to pull off round of 16 upsets.

The American veteran tennis star is the ninth seed this week at the 2017 Paris Masters. He completes the upset over ATP Finals qualifier Drimitrov in the round of 16. Isner takes the meeting with the younger Bulgarian, winning 7-6 (10), 5-7, 7-6 (3).

Advancing into the quarterfinals in Paris, Isner takes on Juan Martin del Potro next at the ATP event. Del Potro and Isner have both tasted success so far on the 2017 ATP World Tour. Both are looking to end their years on a high note.

John Isner is 2-6 against Juan Martin del Potro throughout his career.

Also winning his round of 16 match was Jack Sock. He defeats Vienna Open title winner Lucas Pouille. Sock takes their meeting in straight sets after surviving a first set tiebreak.

Julien Benneteau of France completes an upset over seventh seed David Goffin. He wins the round of 16 meeting in straight sets, taking the match 6-3, 6-3. Goffin does, however, remain in the eighth position as of right now for the ATP Finals in London. Benneteau, a former world No. 25, is a fan favorite this week at the Paris Masters. After several French tennis players dropped their matches, Benneteau moves on with the backing of the home crowd.

As for top seeded Rafael Nadal, he cruises into the quarterfinals. Now the year-end world No. 1, Nadal is poised to continue on in Paris. He will headline the end of year ATP Finals in London along with world No. 2 Roger Federer. The Swiss superstar withdrew from Paris in order to rest and recover in time for the 2017 ATP Finals.

John Isner takes on Juan Martin del Potro on Friday in Paris. The veteran American has two ATP singles titles on the year to go along with a 35-21 singles record. He has risen to No. 14 in the men’s singles rankings and shown flashes of his old self. A deep run at the Paris Masters could be a fitting ending to a strong year for the American.
