Marin Cilic defeated Joao Sousa during the round of 64 at the Australian Open. His early match success set him up for a stellar run at the major tournament.

The 2018 Australian Open saw new names have an impact and veteran greats reemerge. A former US Open champion, it should have come as no surprise that Marin Cilic could make the run that he did at Melbourne Park.

Now, fans and players are undoubtedly keeping an eye on the Croatian tennis star for the rest of the 2018 ATP World Tour. If he can remain healthy, Cilic ought to be considered one of the players to beat throughout the year. Both he and Federer could easily find themselves up against one another in the near future.

Look for Cilic to make headlines throughout the year.

As the 2018 Australian Open comes to a close, both he and Federer will be remembering this run for years to come. On the women’s side, history was made for Caroline Wozniacki. The Danish tennis star earns her first career Grand Slam singles title. She also becomes the world No. 1 on the WTA Tour once again. Having reached the ranking earlier in her career, she now has a major tournament title to back it up. Look for her to be one of the top players in women’s tennis for several years to come. Wozniacki appears to be entering a new era in her career.
