Caroline Wozniacki takes to Instagram following her loss to Puerto Rican tennis star Monica Puig. The Danish star reveals some troubling events.

Caroline Wozniacki falls to Monica Puig at the Miami Open. While hopes were high for the second seed and Australian Open champion, Wozniacki will look to bounce back at her next event.

Puig is a talented young player in her own right. An Olympic gold medalist, the 24-year-old can put up a fight against any player on the WTA Tour. After dropping the first set to Wozniacki, Puig roared back to take the final two. On Saturday, however, Wozniacki reveals that members of the audience were hurling insults to herself and her friends and family.

There is no doubt that the Miami Open and WTA Tour will be taking Wozniacki’s revelations seriously. Tennis, being a fairly intimate sport, can be intense for both fans and players alike. The one-on-one nature of singles tennis makes for a heated atmosphere at times. That should not, however, cause fans of either player to stoop to new lows when it comes to their contributions from the crowd. Wozniacki reveals that death threats and entirely unnecessary insults were thrown at both herself and those cheering for her in the stands.

True fans of the sport wish Wozniacki the best, even in defeat. You win some and you lose some, and the Danish tennis star has by far won more than she has lost as of late. Earning her first ever Grand Slam title at Melbourne Park earlier this year, she is atop the rankings, going back and forth with Romanian great Simona Halep in recent weeks. Halep is in action at the Miami Open, looking to gain some critical points in the singles rankings this week.
