Jack Sock Must Break Slump In ATP Tour Middle Months
By Harry Floyd
Jack Sock is off to a slow start on the 2018 ATP World Tour. The American needs to break out of his slump in the coming weeks.
American tennis star Jack Sock saw a loss in his second match at the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championships in Houston. The loss brought his ATP singles match record to 4-7 on the 2018 ATP World Tour. Now, he is in search of a Top 10 ranking yet again.
Closing out 2017 with his career high ranking of world No. 8, Sock has slipped all the way to the No. 16 singles ranking. All things considered though, he is well within striking distance of the top ten. Last month, he slid to the No. 10 ranking briefly before continuing to fall in the rankings. His No. 16 position is somewhat unexpected, but the young American can bounce back soon.

Sock has reached the fourth round at the French Open before. With action at Roland Garros right around the corner, the young American tennis star needs to be at his best at the major tournament. Grand Slam play will undoubtedly favor Spanish superstar Rafael Nadal for the time being. Nadal is fresh off of his 11th career title at the Monte-Carlo Masters. His return to competitive action after being away due to injury kicks off with another singles title. Nadal is the current world No. 1 in men’s singles tennis.
Jack Sock is competing with several rising stars in the sport. He also must contend with the veteran talents of Nadal, Roger Federer, and others.

Look for the young American to bounce back in the coming weeks. He has seen strong play in the Davis Cup and, despite his lackluster ATP World Tour singles performances thus far in 2018, Jack Sock can turn it on at any given tournament. For now, Nadal is the player to beat on tour. Along with him, veterans such as Marin Cilic and John Isner have thrived as of late. Isner, like Sock, started 2018 slowly before winning a title in Miami. The veteran American tennis star is once again the ATP Top 10. Stay tuned to see how the best in men’s singles fare in the coming weeks.
