John Isner Must Repeat Miami Performance At 2018 French Open
By Harry Floyd
American tennis veteran John Isner remains in the ATP Top 10 this week. He is in Lyon before heading to action at Roland Garros.
John Isner joins Dominic Thiem and other men’s singles stars at the 2018 Lyon Open this week. He is the tournament’s second seed. Thiem is the top seed with Jack Sock in the third seeding and Hyeon Chung at No. 4. These are just four of the players in action prior to play at the upcoming French Open. Isner is looking to rediscover that game that earned him a title-win at the Miami Masters earlier this year.
The 33-year-old Isner is an interesting player to watch at the upcoming Grand Slam.

Isner enjoys playing in Paris. He has gone as far as the fourth round twice before at Roland Garros. In 2014 and then again in 2016, he put on his best performances at the major tournament. His recent success, combined with his prior experience, gives him an edge over others. Players like Sock, despite their bursting onto the scene in the past year, have struggled as of late. Isner is one of several veteran greats like Marin Cilic or Juan Martin del Potro who are maintaining a certain degree of consistency on the ATP World Tour.
John Isner remains in search of his first career Grand Slam singles title. He is a proven veteran with an outside chance at a deep run in Paris.
As it stands right now, defending champion Rafael Nadal is the player to watch at the French Open. He is seeking his 11th career title at the Grand Slam event. Nadal’s talent on clay is undeniable. Others such as John Isner or younger stars like Alexander Zverev and Dominic Thiem are looking to leave their mark on the Grand Slam. Nadal has struggled with some injuries throughout the past year, but appears back to his old self in recent week. He will be tough to take down. That won’t, however, stop everyone from trying their best at Roland Garros. On the women’s singles side, players such as Elina Svitolina and Angelique Kerber are surging right now. They will need to contend with the likes of Simona Halep and Caroline Wozniacki.
