Dominic Thiem is off to a winning start at the 2018 French Open. The young Austrian takes his opening round match in straight sets.

Dominic Thiem is through to the round of 64 after winning his opener at the 2018 French Open. This year, the Austrian is hands down one of the best young players to watch on the ATP World Tour. He defeats Belarusian tennis player Ilya Ivashka in order to advance. Ivashka is a 24-year-old qualifier the year at the Grand Slam. He has been flirting with breaking the ATP Top 100 as of late. Thiem, however, takes his meeting over Ivashka 6-2 6-4 6-1.

Up next for the rising ATP stars is Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece.

Thiem takes on Tsitsipas Wednesday at Roland Garros. Tsitsipas is just 19-years-old and will play the role of a heavy underdog against the world No. 8. Thiem has two ATP singles titles on the year so far and remains in search of his first career Grand Slam win. He, like several other rising stars, appears to be on the verge of a major tournament title. Right now, Rafael Nadal continues to be considered the favorite at Roland Garros. Rain has plagued the early rounds of the French Open so far and the defending champion will continue his opening match on Tuesday. Everything is weather dependent moving forward.

Dominic Thiem is looking for his first career Grand Slam. He has reached the French Open semifinals in each of the last two years.

Thiem has 10 career ATP singles titles to his name. He is surely to be one of the dominant players on the ATP World Tour moving forward. It is just a question as to whether or not he has what it takes to earn a Grand Slam. Other veterans in action alongside Nadal include the likes of Novak Djokovic. While he fought hard in his third set, he managed a straight-set victory during his debut this week. Nole has been battling injuries but is a former champion at the French Open. He won the tournament in 2016. Another young player to keep an eye on is Alexander Zverev. He dominates his opener at Roland Garros. Zverev is also coming off of a red hot few weeks of tennis. He and Dominic Thiem could prove difficult to knock out of the action.
