Romanian tennis star Simona Halep is the player to beat right now at the 2018 French Open. Halep enters the action as the world No. 1. Last year, she finished runner-up to Jelena Ostapenko. It was her second runner-up finish at the French Open. With the defending champion already out of the mix, Halep appears to be the top contender on the women’s singles side of the field. Ostapenko saw an unexpected upset at the major tournament.
Halep defeats Germany’s Andrea Petkovic in straight sets to reach the round of 16.

The journey continues for the Romanian tennis star. She is seeking her first career Grand Slam singles title. Earlier this year, another favorite in Caroline Wozniacki earned her first ever major tournament title at the Australian Open. She defeated Halep in the finals.
