Sloane Stephens, Madison Keys both advancing at French Open

Sloane Stephens and Madison Keys are among the best in women’s singles tennis right now. Both are advancing at the French Open.

Two rising American stars are continuing on at the 2018 French Open in Sloane Stephens and Madison Keys. Stephens and Keys have both reached the quarterfinals at Roland Garros this month. They are not only among the best in American women’s singles right now, but also two of the best players in all of tennis.

Stephens shocked the WTA Tour and the tennis world when she won the 2017 US Open. In that Grand Slam final, she defeated Keys for the title. While Keys is still in search of her first major tournament win, she is poised to accomplish the feat in the near future. Her quarterfinals appearance this year at Roland Garros gets her one step closer to a title.

The other American still in action right now is tennis legend Serena Williams. She takes on Maria Sharapova next at the French Open. The two veterans face off in the round of 16 tomorrow at Roland Garros. Williams has been away from the courts except for a handful of appearances since becoming a new mother. Her absence from the WTA Tour has allowed several rising stars to continue to solidify their places in the sport.

Simona Halep and Caroline Wozniacki have largely been the favorites in 2018. Other such as Keys, Stephens, Angelique Kerber, Elina Svitolina, and Petra Kvitova are also making headlines this year.
