Eugenie Bouchard falls in the round of 64 at the 2018 Wimbledon Championships. Here’s a look at how the Canadian is faring as of late.
Eugenie Bouchard earned a spot in the main draw at Wimbledon the hard way. Being a former finalist at the Grand Slam in 2014, one might think that a seeding in the main draw would be a given. The young Canadian has struggled on the 2018 WTA Tour though. She has also undergone a coaching change in the past year and is rediscovering herself in women’s singles.
The sport is seeing a stellar new generation of stars emerge and Genie must find her footing sooner rather than later. She does, however, fight through the qualifying rounds at the 2018 Wimbledon Championships in order to reach the main draw.

Bouchard found herself defeating Zhu Lin in straight sets during her opening round qualifier. Winning 6-0 6-2, the young Canadian was off to the exact start that she needed. Then, her second qualifier started off in her favor. Winning the first set, it seemed as though Bouchard was cruising to yet another win. She fell in the second though, finding herself in a tough spot for the third. But it would be Bouchard emerging victorious, winning a three set thriller over Karolína Muchová. She takes her second qualifying match 6-2 2-6 6-3. Genie then was pit against the second seeded qualifier in Mariana Duque-Mariño. With a shot at the main draw, everything was on the line. Bouchard rose to the challenge, defeating the second seed 6-3 6-2.
Eugenie Bouchard fought her way into the women’s singles main draw at Wimbledon. She would ultimately reach the round of 64 before losing.

24-year-old Eugenie Bouchard defeats Gabriella Taylor during her Wimbledon 2018 opener. She wins the match 6-0 4-6 6-3. Up next came a tough matchup against 17th seeded Ashleigh Barty. It would be Barty advancing through to the next round as she defeats Genie 6-4 7-5. The second round loss is tough for Bouchard but her resilience shown in qualifying makes the entire outing a success. She is still fighting to break back into the WTA Top 100 and needs to gather some momentum in the aftermath of Wimbledon. In ITF tournament action following the Grand Slam, Genie does fall during her opener. Look for updates on her progress throughout the second half of the year.
