By Harry Floyd
Kevin Anderson is into the semifinals at the 2018 Wimbledon Championships. He upsets the top seed and favorite Roger Federer.
Kevin Anderson completes an almost impossible comeback over the top seed and heavy favorite Roger Federer. The Swiss superstar entered Wimbledon this year as the defending champion. He and Rafael Nadal have largely dominated the 2018 ATP World Tour. While Anderson himself has seen success throughout the past year, Federer was easily the odds on favorite to win yet another title at the Wimbledon Championships.
On the brink of defeat in the third set against the top seed, Anderson dug deep and would not go down without a fight. Taking the third set 7-5, he revealed a glimmer of hope to everyone watching. Anderson would go on to take the fourth set 6-4 before notching a 13-11 victory. Taking the match 2-6, 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-4, 13-11, the South African tennis star advances into the semifinals to face American John Isner next.

Losing was completely out of Federer’s mind after his two set lead. The Swiss great has now lost just twice at Wimbledon after leading two sets. The last time came in 2001 against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. It might be the biggest upset to the men’s singles field thus far at Wimbledon, but Federer ought to take plenty of positives away from his time in London. He will remain one of the top contenders in any tournament he plays for the rest of the 2018 ATP World Tour.
Kevin Anderson completes a historic comeback. He defeats Roger Federer in the 2018 Wimbledon quarterfinals. Up next for the South African is John Isner. The American is fresh off of a win over Milos Raonic.
The final four at Wimbledon are Kevin Anderson, John Isner, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic. It is difficult to say exactly who the favorite is. One might say Djokovic off the bat. But, the Serbian has struggled due to injury throughout the past year. Others might say Nadal, but the King of Clay is beatable on the grass courts at Wimbledon. Either Anderson or Isner could play spoiler. Both players are seeking their first career Grand Slam singles title. At least one of them will have a shot at it by the week’s end.
