Angelique Kerber: Wimbledon Champion Celebrates Victory

Angelique Kerber is your 2018 women’s singles champion at Wimbledon. The title marks her third career Grand Slam singles title.

Angelique Kerber wins the 2018 Wimbledon Championships in women’s singles. The German tennis star completes a historic run at the Grand Slam event in London. Defeating American Serena Williams in the finals, Kerber adds the accomplishment to an already stellar resume. She had previously won the Australian Open and US Open in 2016. After an up and down 2017 WTA Tour, Kerber has rediscovered herself and reemerged as a top player in women’s singles.

Her run at Wimbledon this month includes wins over the likes of Jelena Ostapenko, Daria Kasatkina, and Naomi Osaka among others. The finals meeting between Kerber and Williams also marked a rematch of their 2016 final that went in favor of Williams.

Now, Kerber is a champion in women’s singles at Wimbledon. She wins the finals meeting over Williams in straight sets, going 6-3 6-3. Throughout her time at Wimbledon this month, Kerber dropped just a single set. She should carry this momentum into the second half of the 2018 WTA Tour, but she will surely be enjoying herself in the days to come. Kerber collapsed to the ground after clinching the match win over Williams. All smiles in the aftermath, the German tennis star remains in awe of her accomplishment. Post-match, Williams was gracious, exchanging a hug and words of congratulations with Kerber.
