Eugenie Bouchard Reaches Ladies Championship Gstaad Semifinals

Eugenie Bouchard enters the Ladies Championship Gstaad semifinals this weekend. She squares off against the tournament’s top seed.

Eugenie Bouchard has put on a strong display of tennis this week at the 2018 Ladies Championship Gstaad. The young Canadian tennis star has struggled in recent years but has shown moment’s of brilliance. This week in Gstaad is one of them.

Facing off against the tournament’s top seed next, she has her work cut out for her in the semifinals. Number one seed Alizé Cornet is fresh off of a win over Samantha Stosur. The French tennis star is yet to drop a single set throughout her time in Switzerland.

Prior to the women’s singles action in Gstaad, Bouchard took time to relax and enjoy the Swiss Alps. Genie went hiking in the mountains, ate sushi at high altitudes, and shared it all with her fans via social media. The pre-tournament trip to the Alps appears to have paid off for the young Canadian. Fighting hard to win a first round three set match, Bouchard has found her rhythm ever since. She wins her previous two matches in straight sets, taking down 21-year-old Veronika Kudermetova most recently. Genie wins their meeting, going 7-5 6-0.

Eugenie Bouchard faces top seeded Alizé Cornet next at the 2018 Ladies Championship Gstaad in Switzerland. The 24-year-old Canadian is one match away from a chance at the title.

The other semifinals meeting this week in Gstaad sees Czech tennis player Markéta Vondroušová taking on Mandy Minella of Luxembourg. The tournament is featuring an impressive mix of veteran and young talent on the WTA Tour. Eugenie Bouchard needs to continue her fantastic play against the favorite in Cornet next. Stay tuned to see if Genie can advance. Cornet is the sole remaining seeded player left on the women’s singles side. She is the favorite moving forward, but Bouchard is accomplished in her own right. The Canadian is a former Wimbledon finalist and is looking to gather some much needed momentum on the WTA Tour as she eyes the US Open.
