Dominic Thiem and Rafael Nadal are in action Tuesday night at the 2018 US Open. They begin their meeting by swapping sets.
Austrian tennis star Dominic Thiem is seeking his first ever appearance in the semifinals at the US Open. He opens his quarterfinals meeting with Spanish superstar Rafael Nadal in fine form. Winning the opening set 6-0, he shocks the defending champion Nadal from the outset. Now, one must wonder if Thiem can keep it up.
Nadal bounces right back though, taking the second set 6-4. All eyes are on the quarterfinals match between Thiem and Nadal tonight at Flushing Meadows.
Thiem is fresh off of a win over South African tennis veteran Kevin Anderson. Nadal is coming off of a win over Nikoloz Basilashvili. Nadal is considered the favorite in the quarterfinals meeting, but anything can happen between he and Thiem. The younger Austrian tennis star is a must watch player on the ATP World Tour. He remains in search of his first ever grand slam singles title. If he can get past Nadal on Tuesday night, Thiem will be two matches away from another shot at a major title. Earlier this year, he fell to Rafa in the finals at the French Open.
