Eugenie Bouchard climbs singles rankings, cracks WTA Top 100

Canadian tennis player Eugenie Bouchard is back into the WTA Top 100. She jumps 20 places in the women’s singles rankings.

Eugenie Bouchard sees a massive jump in the women’s singles rankings right at the end of her 2018 WTA Tour. The Canadian tennis player reaches the semifinals at the Luxembourg Open, falling to Germany’s Julia Goerges in a tough three set loss. Her strong performance at the event, however, catapults her in the singles rankings.

Moving up 20 places, Genie is now the world number 88 on the WTA Tour.

In 2017, Bouchard was the world number 81 in women’s singles tennis. In the previous two years, she had gone as high as the world number 47 and 48 position. Even earlier than that, Bouchard made headlines when she became the number five player in the world. Her 2014 WTA Tour featured a finals run at the Wimbledon Championships to go along with semifinals appearances at both the Australian Open and the French Open.

The question has to be asked; is Eugenie Bouchard rediscovering her WTA Top 10 game? Fans and players alike must keep an eye on the younger generation surrounding Genie. The sport of women’s singles is entering a new era and Bouchard finds herself right in the middle of it. She must compete with some of the next great stars of the WTA Tour.

Eugenie Bouchard is moving yet again in the singles rankings. While the likes of Simona Halep, Elina Svitolina, Naomi Osaka, Angelique Kerber, and Caroline Wozniacki have dominated the 2018 WTA Tour, players such as Bouchard are looking for momentum to take into 2019.

The move in the women’s singles rankings is exactly what Eugenie Bouchard needs to close out her 2018 WTA Tour. The young Canadian still has several years ahead of her in women’s singles tennis. Despite sliding in the rankings in the past three years, she is capable of a comeback. Around her, however, are several other rising stars on the WTA Tour. Players the likes of recent US Open champion Naomi Osaka appear unstoppable right now. Genie will need to keep up her newfound momentum in the early action of the 2019 tour is she hopes to reach career heights yet again.
