Canadian tennis player Eugenie Bouchard confirms her participation in the upcoming ASB Classic now known as the WTA Auckland Open. Genie is just one of many big names heading into play at the WTA Tour event. Defending champion Julia Görges could be considered the favorite right now but the field is packed with talent.

Last year, Danish tennis star Caroline Wozniacki fell to Görges in the finals. Wozniacki will also be returning to attempt a title run in Auckland.

The 2018 WTA Tour saw Wozniacki rising to new career heights. Her play translated on the courts early in the year, culminating with a Grand Slam singles title at the Australian Open. She used her momentum in Auckland to head right into the major tournament action.

The ASB Classic will feature Eugenie Bouchard, Caroline Wozniacki, and other WTA stars.

The win at Melbourne Park was Wozniacki’s first career Grand Slam singles title on the WTA Tour. This year at the ASB Classic, others such as Venus Williams, Victoria Azarenka, Sofia Kenin, and Timea Babos are also in the mix. The field in women’s singles is sure to set up a thrilling tournament.

Wozniacki, who has finished runner-up twice in the past four years, must be considered a player to beat at the event. She is undoubtedly an early favorite for the title.
