German tennis veteran Angelique Kerber had a career year in 2018. Now, we have to wonder if she can keep up the momentum.

Can Angelique Kerber keep up her newfound momentum as we head into the 2019 WTA Tour action? The short answer is yes. Kerber is coming off of another career year and, despite entering her 30s, there are no signs of Angie slowing down. So long as she remains healthy, Kerber could even retake the world number one ranking in just a few short months.

Last year, Kerber revisited Grand Slam glory, adding a third career women’s singles major to her resume. Winning the 2018 Wimbledon Championships, the now world number two defeated American tennis legend Serena Williams in the finals. Their finals meeting was a rematch of the 2016 Wimbledon Championships where Williams was the winner.

Here, Kerber took to social media to share with fans her reflections on the Wimbledon win. It was beyond historic, making Angie one of the best players in the sport yet again. She had reached the world number one ranking back in 2016 when she won both the Australian Open and the US Open. Once again though, Kerber is a Grand Slam contender.

Angelique Kerber has tons of momentum heading into the 2019 WTA Tour.

Looking ahead to the 2019 WTA Tour, Simona Halep remains on top. Her health, however, is a big question mark. The Romanian great had to withdraw from action at the WTA Finals in Singapore.

With Halep out of the mix, Kerber managed to finish second overall in the women’s singles rankings, just ahead of Danish star Caroline Wozniacki. She could make a run at the top ranking in the sport in the first few months of the upcoming tour.

The 2019 Australian Open will be a telling tournament for Angelique Kerber, Simona Halep, Caroline Wozniacki, and other rising stars on the WTA Tour. Kerber is a former champion and has loads of momentum right now. Halep is seeking to bounce back from injury and Wozniacki will attempt to defend her Grand Slam title. Anything can happen, but Angie has an edge that few others have at the moment. She has performed well in the early months of the tour in the past and is coming off of a stellar 2018 tour.
