John Isner had a career year on the 2018 ATP World Tour. Still without a slam win though, can the American win a major tournament in the coming year?

American tennis veteran John Isner has once again become the headline name amongst men’s singles players from the United States. After Jack Sock fell off in the singles rankings and focused his play in men’s doubles, Isner has only gotten better. Sam Querrey has also failed to display consistency in the past year. While several rising Americans remain on the periphery, Isner is the player to beat in American men’s tennis.

The question has to be asked; is it still possible for Isner to win a Grand Slam?

The 33-year-old Isner is yet to notch a Grand Slam singles title throughout his impressive career. He touched the world number eight ranking on the ATP World Tour this year before finishing in the number ten position. He even reached the semifinals this past year at Wimbledon.

John Isner can still perform well at Grand Slams, but can he take a title?

There is no doubt that the American is among the best players without a Grand Slam to their name on the ATP World Tour. The road to a major tournament win is no easy feat, especially nowadays.

The reemergence of the likes of Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer have even further complicated the task. You have rising stars who represent the next generation threatening in slams and veteran greats remaining the favorites. And Isner has to contend with all of them.

ATP Finals champion Alexander Zverev might be the best rising star without a Grand Slam singles title to his name. John Isner is right in the mix of veterans without a major win. Can he win one on the 2019 ATP World Tour? He will compete at a high level, we know that much. He has fared best at Wimbledon and the US Open but has at least reached the fourth round of play in all four Grand Slam events. Isner always has a shot, but time will tell if he can pull it off.
